Joe Biden’s administration has stated that they will “welcome 100,000 Ukrainians to the United States”. A bold statement.

The problem is, we don’t know how it’s going to happen.

Due in part to the Trump administration’s fight against immigration, Biden is struggling to deliver on his promise – according to Scott Bixby, White House reporter for The Daily Beast, “fewer than 6,500 people have actually been allowed into the country through refugee resettlement programs… out of 125,000 potential spots.” And apparently, the current administration hasn’t told anyone how they’re planning to fix the issue.

President Trump’s hostility toward refugees led us to this rut, and it’s clear he shoulders much of the responsibility here. But President Biden is talking a big game without any clear plan, putting the United States in an awkward spotlight. Senators, nonprofits, & refugee advocates are reportedly out of the loop when it comes to details for bringing in refugees, and with the Kremlin’s offensive displacing thousands of Ukrainians on a daily basis, one can’t help but wonder if Biden’s administration properly understands the gravity of the situation.
