About Keepin’ Real
Keepin’ Real aims to bridge the gap between social media and social impact, serving as a hub for relevant, reliable & fact-checked news and organizations, and for streamlined ways for users to contribute to causes.
Why We Do What We Do
In today’s day and age, where information is at the tips of our fingers, we learn and spread news through social media, with issues pertaining to social justice & social change being no exception. However, even though users get their news through social media, it’s still difficult for them to learn about issues revolving around their communities and passions. Plus, their options to make any sort of tangible impact are severely limited and may not even be explicitly visible.
Our Story
In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, hate crimes on the Asian-American population of the United States were on the rise; but awareness for the issue wasn’t. While innocent people were getting harmed, mainstream media glossed over these racially motivated crimes and people’s voices were being ignored.
As an Asian-American himself, our founder wanted to learn more about what was going on. But the more he researched, not only did he find that information was too spread out to identify a cohesive problem, but so many other critical issues were being swept under the rug by mainstream media.
Keepin’ Real was originally born as an alt news website, but our goals have expanded to become the hub for overlooked and forgotten news, plus ways to spread awareness and relief for these issues.
